Mountain Biking in the Fortuna Region of Mission Trails Regional Park

I live at the southern base of Cowles Mountain with easy access to the Big Rock Trail; a technical beast within Mission Trails Regional Park. Read about it here. Just across the gorge is the Fortuna Region of MTRP. I finally had the chance to explore it while testing out my newly upgraded Shimano Deore 12spd drivetrain. There is more to explore. Some early thoughts. . .

Bring Your Legs and Lungs

The whole network in the Fortuna Region is in a large bowl so every time you get the itch to ride downhill, steep service road climbs are required to get out and get to the top of the descent. Single and double track options are limited. However, if one is looking for an intense cardio session, it can be found here. If you’re one looking to lay the hammer down on your riding friends, prepare here.

“Do E-Ticket”

That was the exact text. This came from Sean Bascom of Sprockids San Diego. I found it. Not steep. Not technical. Just the right amount of sizzle with some berms, bumps, and jumps. Trailforks covers it well.

By the way, if you’re looking to get your kid some group time on the bike, don’t hesitate to reach out to Sean. Solid dude. Good with kids. Bike skill sessions, trail etiquette, peer support, and trail challenges are all part of the experience for the little ones.

What’s Next?

It’s close to home. I’ll be back to take some pre/post work rides on E-Ticket from time to time. Beyond that, meh.

I haven’t jumped into night riding yet. I left feeling like this could be the right place to do it. We’ll see.
